You must have a pre-donation physical which includes answering medical history questions, tests for infectious diseases such as HIV and Hepatitis and evaluating your protein and hemoglobin levels.
Donors are required to provide a current valid Federal or State Identification card and proof of address. You may use a recent bill received via mail or other documentation showing your current living address.

Yes. Overseen by various regulatory agencies, including the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the plasma donation process is performed in a highly controlled, aseptic environment by professionally trained staff, including oversight by onsite licensed medical professionals.
Your plasma is collected in a sterile disposable closed system ensuring no contamination. In addition, highly regulated cleaning protocols ensure the process is safe.
Donating plasma is like giving blood. A needle is placed into a vein in your arm. Plasma is collected through a process call plasmapheresis and is conducted in cycles that may take up to an hour. The following steps outline the donation process:
Step 1: Whole blood is drawn.
Step 2: The plasma is separated from the red blood cells and other cellular components.
Step 3: Then, the red blood cells are returned along with a sterile saline solution, which serves to replace the volume of plasma taken during the donation.
Nearly 500 different types of proteins have been found in human blood plasma. Approximately 150 of these may be used for diagnosing disease or manufacturing life-saving therapies.
